Statement

It's all about the execution, exploration and evolution of an idea.  My journey into the world of creative arts started with the question, “What would Jackson Pollock’s work look like if he had used transparent watercolors?”  So, it was away with the pencils, pens, and brushes, and on to the pouring of various aqueous solutions.  Along the way, i found it to be quite calming to be "in the zone" loosely applying media and allowing a work to develop seemingly on its own.  It turns out fans and collectors found the works to be "joyful" and "calming," as well.

Amazing things happen when the primary colors are allowed to mix of their own volition.  Even with minimum input, just the three primary colors, infinite possibilities come to light.  Basic and simple leads to the kinetic and complex.

My unique, organic, and dynamic work blurs the distinctions between watercolor, alcohol ink, acrylic pouring, and action painting styles. While I may keep to a remarkably simple palette, I enjoy the freedom to explore various media, surfaces, and techniques

My goal is to capture the synergy created when diverse media meld on their own accord. The media are mostly liquid and may include acrylic inks, liquid watercolor, metallic watercolor, pearlescent inks, food coloring, dyes, surfactants, and the occasional drop, or two, of alcohol ink. To date, my preferred surface to work on is Yupo synthetic paper.

I feel a need to create works that are unique and defy categorization.  I genuinely enjoy the freedom and creative processes associated with abstract art (and cooking!).  My latest adventures have been in the direction of ‘strip weaving,’ montage and collage.  The mixture of different media and surfaces within a work seems to ‘abstracts the abstracts.’  Also, I am expanding the scope of my work by moving to larger scale efforts.

Biography

I began my artistic journey in 2006 while living in southern California. Mostly self-taught but have attended watercolor classes by Joe Stoddard at the Creative Arts Group in Sierra Madre, CA, as well as seminars with Robert Burridge and Marciano Martinez.

Before coming to Tampa, in 2010, I moved across the U.S. on a career path that included work in sales, marketing, customer service, quality management, consulting and business ownership.  I have earned both a technical Bachelor of Science degree and a master’s degree in Business Administration.

While the arc of my art career has had many interruptions, since late-202 I have been focused on devoting more time and energy to my practice. I am currently re-building my portfolio and my 'tribe' – both locally and beyond.

I am a renewing member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (PAVA) and a new member at the Warehouse Arts District Association (WADA) and The Exhibiting Society of Artists (TESA).

My work has been shown in open and juried exhibits locally and across the country.
